Sudden activity of SceCli in Application Log (Event Viewer)?
This is the Security Configuration Editor CLIent for Windows. I've
been noticing some suspicious crashes lately, so I looked in the Event Viewer and didn't find anything obviously helpful, but I'm kind of mystified by these apparently identical notations about SceCli that suddenly started appearing from July 5th. Haven't been able to find any obviously related discussions here. Most of the discussions that mentioned it (over in Microsoft land) were related to Microsoft's HTTP server, and I'm an Apache user, and there haven't been any Apache problems. The actual log message is kind of tricky to understand in Japanese, but it seems to be saying that the group security has been successfully applied I can't imagine why it started on July 5th. I certainly don't recall changing any security settings at that time. The frequency is weird, too. About once or twice a day, and usually at times when I am not home. (The machine is 24/7, obviously.) So has anyone else noticed this? Explanations? My current hypothesis is another Microsoft patch, but who can keep track? (Actually, the installation history shows that was the date I installed Windows 2000 SP4. Perhaps new Microsoft spyware?) |

similar problem with sudden crashes to black screen
Similar story here... except that my ThinkPad T20 2647-41U experiences sudden, apparently random shutdowns, without going through the shutdown sequence. It just goes dead to black screen with a momentary white cursor in the upper left corner then competely OFF. The only consistent factor is the SceCli activity in the Ap log with the group security application msg.
It happens on or off the network (once without my network card in the PCMCIA slot) and with a variety of different apps open (MS word only, browser only) Likewise, In my case, it happened first after installing SP4, but I also noticed that some parts of SP4 were prevented from installing...and the system goes down as described suddenly. I've also changed the power supply and the battery says charged @100% Any ideas on what could be happening? |
