mic w/o sound driver?

Is this possible?
My sound driver is screwed, and after extensive web searching I came to a
site describing the exact problem and what to do. The easier fixes didn't
work, leaving with the screwed one: reinstalling Windows.
Well, I aint doin it! I'm getting a new computer soon enough, and I'm
sure not going thru the hell twice of reinstalling every damn program one
by one. I'm also wise enough to know I should do a "clean" install, so
will eventually have to bite the above bullet.

BUT, what I'm hoping is that the mic drive is not the same one, and might
work. I've got a speakerphone prog. that I'd like to use. You can hear
the other person on the speaker just fine, so must be using PC speaker,
but they can't hear me. Anyway to fix given my predicament?
