Number of files on server

Hi All,

Is there any way to tell how many files are on a server? I need to know
for configuring some new backup software, and I can't seem to dig this
info out. Looking at kernel parameters I can see the max number of open
files allowed, and the max files allowed per user process times the max
user processes allowed would give me the max files I CULD have, but I
want to know how many I D have.

Thanks~
