terratec cinergy 400 cardbus - with sound !!
Hi!
I figured out how to get sound working with this tuner. I was playing with the various module options and found out that to get sound, you should not set 'qss=0' as part of tda9887 options. If I also set qss=0, sound is there for a second or so, then dissapears. What does qss=0 do anyway? Then to watch tv I use mplayer (www.mplayerhq.hu), because it knows how to get sound from the PCI bus, so no need for something like sox. The full command line I use is: mplayer -vo xv -ao alsa -tv <list_of_channels> -vf crop=690:552,pp=li -aspect 4/3 tv:// To switch between channels, the default keys are 'h' and 'k'. The list of channels is in the form of chan1-chan1_name,chan2-chan2_name,etc. An example: channels=ERF_1,RF_2,SE8-Sat.1,SE12-Pro_7 Sound does not work right away, you need to switch the mixer to line1, for example with umix: umix -d /dev/mixer1 line1 R And that' it, the tuner works perfectly. Now, I would just like to thank Hans J. Koch, for the risk of opening his device (I could never do that, the tuner wasn't exactly cheap) and figuring out how to get it to work in the first place. regards, Uros -- video4linux-list mailing list Unsubscribe @redhat.com?subject=unsubscribe |

Hi! > I figured out how to get sound working with this tuner. And that's true!!! CNGRATULATINS!!! I can confirm everything you've said, I just watched the news with the mplayer command line you've posted. I also set qss=1 in the tda9887 module parameters. Thanks a lot for the good work! You finally made this card usable. Hans -- video4linux-list mailing list Unsubscribe @redhat.com?subject=unsubscribe |

About the tda9885/6/7 was much said, but qss=0 default I don't think ever for PAL, except (!) pinnacle pctv with saa7134 and microtune. If defaults don't work test on that too was said. It is known to be the only way for NTSC cards like ATI TV Wonder pro and MSI TV @nywhere Master with tda9885/6. Some cards like my md7134 with tda9887 can do both. What other inputs do you have on mixer1 ? Sorry again then, I preach it for saa7133/5 since Michael Jackson reported the first time oss sound on such chips after the hint from Tom Felker with the mixer. And I preached it to you too, "look up this mixer fiddling"! Many people confirmed it meanwhile, just recently for the FlyTV Platinum minipci again. I'm really sorry if this was the showstopper. What other inputs do you have on mixer1 ? Inputs on /dev/mixer1 are line1, line2 and video. I don't think, that line1 in particullar is important, it's just that you need to switch around for sound to start working, because it's the same whatever I change to and whatever I set it to afterwards. regards, Uros -- video4linux-list mailing list Unsubscribe @redhat.com?subject=unsubscribe |

It wasn't. I always had all volume sliders up on my mixer. And I just noticed that it doesn't matter which channel is selected for recording. I have Line1, Line2, and Video sliders in aumix for /dev/mixer1. I can select any of them for recording, even change the setting while watching TV. Anyway, it works now. Now I can finally check my .amux settings. But here I noticed a problem with mplayer: If I select e.g. Composite with the input=2 option of the mplayer -tv parameter, then video is switched, but I still hear the TV sound. First I had none, now I can't get rid of it :-) Any ideas ? And another foolish beginners question: Why isn't it working with xawtv ? I can set the mixer in xawtvrc, and I can set the device with the -C command line option. Can anybody explain that ? By the way: Now recording with audacity works, too. Hi, except the device initialisation problems and so on, since yesterday I know one could have very hard times with that oss stuff on FC2 machine with two soundcards! It shows confusing and random behaviour how the oss dsp and mixer minors are lined up, even when the numbers are forced, strangeness remains. (to be investigated) Two years ago there was a minor bug, that only on dsp0 oss could have the record input, fixed by Gerd, and all was fine since then, at least RH9 and FC1 was and FC3 is again as far I can see. (But I have the md7134 isdn currently in there for testing, works usually only in the special blue slot of the original EM board ;) and is of course not such stable with the oss stuff at all) Anyway, it works now. Yes, that is very unpleasant to test with oss only again, but currently everyone on saa7133/5/1 is reporting that and as I already posted wait until someone with analog audio output has something new. Some bits don't come through as expected and the mixer stuff is not yet complete for this devices for what I can see, maybe someone capable enough like Hartmut can do more on it. Again, this one From Anthony is the only ever heard about audio from external input, at least hard to believe it came from the silicon tuner. There was nothing for it at all. And another foolish beginners question: Why isn't it working with xawtv ? I can set the mixer in xawtvrc, and I can set the device with the -C command line option. Can anybody explain that ? Tvtime and xawtv (.xawtv for newer 3.9x) both have in the docs/FAQs to use sox in such cases, they simply don't support it at this times. Didn't even know that mplayer does it until Nico posted that. It is not directly related to the tda9887 stuff. (Reinhard asked) Was also in the same above thread. The oss record input switching on saa7134 chips is only safe on the oss mixer and works. You should also be able to start a record and immediately do playback (timeshift) with xine. (seeking and get rid of commercials works since years with tv output for me, also over nfs mounts) By the way: Now recording with audacity works, too.
